I am sure you will succeed regardless of what you choose. The only caveat I could think of would be, as others have alluded, that people may take issue if they discover your "fabulousness" *after* you've been elected. If it is a known fact that you are gay and have an active social life, then it won't give any opponents a "bombshell" to drop on you later.
Wow, what a great idea. I've never heard of libraries doing this. Might help attract the young folk and perhaps get them interested in checking out some reading material.
